Well, starting…

This is the first time that I have attempted to compose something of this nature. I have always loved reading and writing. This started out at a very early age. I have been reading since I was 2 years old. I dove into any books that I could lay my hands on. All of the members of my family have also been avid readers. I grew up with all of Grimm’s Fairy Tales read to me nightly. I was also given the stories of my ancestral homeland, all of the tales of might and magic. My parents enthusiastically fed my interest.

All of this reading led to reading competitions in my primary school years. I spent most of my time devouring non-fiction books and found myself at a college level reading comprehension by the time I was 10 years old. I still have a love for all of my non-fiction books although some of my tastes have changed over the years. Paleontology and Geological texts slowly took a back burner position. (I still love them, but I have to find something new and interesting.) As I hit my teen years, I slowly branched out into science fiction and fantasy. (One of my guilty pleasures is Star Trek, I had most of the fiction series at one point.) Best loved was the works of Tolkien, of Bilbo and Gandalf, the Elves and the Men.

By the time I was on my own, I had amassed an entire library of various subjects. Ancient History, Science, Religion and Mythology. I live among the stacks. My library sprouts like mushrooms, all waiting for another bookshelf. Fiction or Non-Fiction, all have their place. My partner and our children have only added to the library.

With this great amount of content of a physical form, I found that I have been blessed with inspiration to write. I had always enjoyed writing and excelled in my English and Composition classes. Not enough to win accolades, but enough to keep me hungry. I wrote down the little movies that would run in my head. Journals were filled and were swiftly relegated to a shelf.

I am a quiet person when not among my friends. I tend to keep to myself when in public. My hobbies with reading, writing, and playing tabletop games are how I spend my off time. In my work, I am professional and enjoy what I do. All keeps me driving towards enjoying the fullness of life.

So, in starting, this is going to be a work in progress. Always progress. To paraphrase a well-worn adage, “What comes after the last revision? Another revision!” I am new to this, and I get the same feeling that I got when walking out on to a stage, total stage fright! (At least for tonight)

I hope you enjoy my generous rough drafts, because for now, that’s what they are. I do this because I love stories!

Deirdre
